During our Fire Prevention Open House on October 16, 2001 we sponsored a 'Boot' collection for the firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11/01. Many of our guests contributed a dollar or two, or extra change. The amount of the collection came to $364. During our next membership meeting our members elected to match the amount raised with our own fund raising activities by an amount of almost 2 to 1. This final amount was rounded to $1000. This check was presented to the Fallen Firefighters Foundation when the Nike Run Across America stopped at Chews Landing Fire Hall on November 23, 2001. As the Nike Runners passed through our fire district they were escorted by our fire trucks. We met them as they entered Gloucester Township on Almonesson Road. As the runners continued on they were also met and escorted by trucks from out neighboring districts. The escort continued until they reached their destination at Chews Landing Fire House.
